Influencer Spotlight: Lindsay Gilbert

Lindsay  is a crafter, graphic designer, and glitter enthusiast from Utah. She’s passionate about homeschooling a creative daughter, traveling and spending time with her glue gun. Lindsay shares DIY project tutorials, printables, recipes, kids crafts, and creative family activities on her blog,, inspiring readers to have a more creative life.

What inspired you to start a blog?
I have always been an “artsy-fartsy” person. When my daughter was born, my husband worked graveyard shift and I worked from home as a graphic designer creating invitations and announcements. We didn’t have much of a budget to decorate our home, so I was making a lot of home decor on my own to save money and to give me a creative outlet. As I would look online for inspiration, I discovered blogs and decided to begin my own as Artsy-Fartsy Mama. I love that it’s my own space that I can share my craft projects, free printables that I have designed, and family activities that will hopefully inspire others to incorporate into their own lives.

How do you come up with new content ideas? What’s that process look like?
Making things is my therapy. I love making handmade items and really enjoy creating something customized instead of going out and buying it. Spending time with my family is one of my favorite things, so we are always taking new “adventures” together. I try to think of fun things we could do together that can be written in a post to inspire others to have more family time together. When inspiration strikes, I add it to my list of potential projects. If I’m having a creative block, I visit Pinterest for inspiration and can also count on my husband to help me with different ways to complete my project ideas.

Beautiful photography plays a major role on your site. When did you learn to use a camera, and
what’s your number one tip for taking great photos?
I have always been fascinated with photography and learned to use a camera in my early teens. I also took photography classes in college and really enjoy the process. As a graphic designer, I have also learned how to make images more appealing. One of my best tips is to practice as much as possible, and it’s important to never stop learning new tricks!

When partnering with a brand how do you incorporate their product into your content?
Whenever I come across a new brand or product, I come up with a list of ideas of how I can use the product in a post. I try to think of how I can use the product to: create a craft project, design a free printable it can coordinate with, or use it in some kind of family activity.

From your point of view, what draws audiences to your social media and blog?
I try to be as authentic as possible, and I like to think that I am talking to friends! When I am writing a post, my goal is to put together something unique to leave readers feeling like they have learned something new. Social media is my favorite place to share funny memes and jokes, new craft ideas, and clever tips & tricks with followers just as I would with real life friends.

What is your favorite thing about being an influencer?
It’s amazing that I can have the potential to inspire others by being a real, authentic person instead of a paid celebrity. One of my favorite things is being able to inspire those who think that they aren’t creative to try something new, or give them ways to use my free printables in their life for gifts, home decor, and kids activities.

What advice can you give to aspiring bloggers or social media influencers?
Blogging isn’t easy and it takes time to grow. You won’t make money right away. If you enjoy what you are writing about and are being authentic, it will shine through your posts. Through my blog, I have made a lot of real life friendships and love that I can have amazing relationships with brands that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do without Artsy-Fartsy Mama.

How do you see blogging and influencer marketing evolving in the future?
I hope to see brands incorporate influencers more in their marketing. Influencers have so much potential to reach a larger audience with a more authentic voice. I also kind of hope that blogging will someday go back to being a little less about making money, and more about making new relationships with others with similar interests.
